Extracting the Essential Gesture and Contour

This is a drawing by Durer. There are many drawings on the site, but this particular one stands out. The weight of the fabric on the figures arm is drawn beautifully. I found this to be a good example of extracting the essential gesture and contour. The series of contour lines really capture this young boys shape.

Gestural Drawings of the Masters, and the meaning of Contours

This drawing by Daumier is a great example of gestural drawing. There is so much movement throughout the space. Each of the figures in this drawing are moving while staying grounded to the space. You can almost see the motion of the figure playing the drum. The contour lines used in the figure standing on the chair are remarkable.

Model 2

This was the second time drawing a model. I really enjoy how this came out, I like the shadows on the middle toned paper. I would like to add more shading in the future, but for now this is my work in progress.

Drapery

For this drawing I decided to use cray-pas on a toned paper. I chose a small section to draw. I love the shadows in the drapery.

Flowers

I loved drawing these flowers. I chose to draw them straight on and I really like the way they turned out.

Model 1

This was the first time I drew a model. My drawings developed during the course of the class. I like how these came out, and I am eager to finish the last one.

Movement

This was a movement exercise done in class. I really liked the way the lines move in this drawing.
